This video, like most videos like it, has much more of a story then it seems.

No matter what your age being pulled over for a crime and then refusing to give your name is wrong and illegal, not to mention the kid was screaming swears and calling him names while the cop had to chase him down.
A police officer deserves more respect then that. If force was used it was because it was deserved. Also the force looks much worse then it is. The kid was freaking out and using all his strength to evade the cop, which in turn made the cop have to use more of his strength to hold him. Have you ever tried to restrain someone? They are taught to hold the shoulders down and restrain the arms, otherwise the kid could grab his gun. There is so much to the situation that is not in a news article.
Everyone says he handled the situation wrong. How would the right way have been? Should he have just let the kid get away with not following the law then refusing to give his name, just let him run away with his friends while he is swearing at the cops...what do you think those kids will do next time they run into an illegal situation. I keep hearing " he should of just let him go when the woman said ". Who is the police officer here? If he had just let him go when the woman said too, the kid would have just run away, nothing gained, nothing learned, when I was his age and also a little shit, I would have run away.
This, so important fact that this kid is 14 doesn't seem to matter when it comes to life lessons but it does when I cop finally teaches the kid to respect and listen to a police officer.
Another comment I keep hearing is that this kid and others will be scared to phone the police now because of the cops actions. They will not call because they are bad kids and do not want to get in legal trouble. Many of us know what it was like being the bad kid. Bad kids do not phone police for anything, but because of this video and the "stories" other people might be scared to call them now and for no good reason, other then they are not getting the whole story, just a viral 3 minute video. So in other words in this fear-fire, it is not the lighters fault, it is the people fueling the fire. When you teach a kid to respect someone they will not fear them. I was just like that kid, thought I could get away with everything. Until I didn't get away with everything. Then I changed and decided that the law deserved respect and now If I needed to, I would call that police officer in a second. He looks like someone who gets the job done and is finally teaching the kids in that town that they cannot just run around disrespecting everyone.
If people truly believe they want Cumberland to be cleaned up, then they should stop assuming that police are always in the wrong just because they seen 3 minutes of a situation and have no actual facts on what happened. Also people like that woman need to back off and let the police do their jobs. It is sad that so much damage is caused to the police reputation just from some shitty Cumberland people taking videos. This is why I moved out of that town. Its gone so bad.
YES!!! This is all I kept thinking while watching the video. My great-grandmother is almost 94 has lived in Cumberland almost her entire life. The town is full of ignorant adults and children now, drugs, and all-around terrible people with no respect for their neighbors. People who lets their dogs and kids run wild and do not care what damages they cause to other people's property. People want to the town to be safe, clean and a better place? Start having respect for police and other people, and other people's property. End of story!
ReplyDeleteI really like how this article was written. I totally agree. I think kids need to learn a lesson right away or who knows what they will do next. If that was my kid I'd probably thank the Cop and buy him a coffee. Lol. I think the Cop was pretty calm, especially with a buncha teens n a crazy lady that smelled of alcohol swearing and touching the Cop all up in his face. I don't agree with this Gofundme crap. TOTAL BS!!!!! All I can say is props to the Cop keep up the great work
DeleteMedia will give any story a lil tweak for a better sorry.. and ppl love police brutality these days. As for cumberland being full of delinquents.. no more than any other town. Dodge city is a great place to live!
DeleteI also liked how the news put their spin on it too... like the kid did no wrong and this police officer just shoved him on the ground for no apparent reason. Give me a break! When are people going to stop coddling their kids, make them own up to their bad deeds and receive the punishment they deserve?
ReplyDeleteIf that kid was a 35 year old man yelling at cops he would have had a way worse scenario from the police. I think the cop was pretty light on him considering. My only thought is, who teaches their children that cops are "pigs" and that they are above the law?
ReplyDeleteAmen on this article. When I saw the video I could only wonder what the little shite did to have the police take this action. Kids now a days have no respect for authority what so ever and it's because of parents and adults that act like that woman did...now she's getting charged, maybe she'll think next time she gets involved in a situation that had nothing to do with her. If that was my kid, he'd have more trouble when he got home....actually if that was my kid he'd never act like in the first place because I raised my kids to have respect. These kids are our future and I fear a very grim future the way it's going.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the blog. Kids are getting away with too much and we as the community need to also stand up for what is right. To teach and show what and how respect works. It wouldn't hurt to have everybody settle down a bit as well.
ReplyDeleteAnother ignorant sheep bleating....."Obey...Obey...Obey". Learn the difference between "illegal" and "unlawful", and what "excessive force" means. Police are your SERVANTS....not an authority that lords over you. People like you (with the vote) have subjugated us all !
ReplyDeleteYes!!! I personally believe in non-agression. You never use violence against another human being, EXCEPT in self defense, or in defense of another person who is being attacked. What did this accomplish? Does the kid now have MORE respect for police? Not very likely.
DeleteYou are right that police are SUPPOSED to be public servants, not authority figures, and if they didn't behave in this deplorable manner so often, maybe the kid would have shown a little more respect than he (allegedly) did.
I heard from a witness that SIX backup cars showed up. WTF?!?! These CV cops need to be going after violent criminals that actually harm others, not some kid without a freaking helmet on who maybe got a little lippy, only because cops continue to live up to the nickname "pigs".
Wouldn't the money and time spent dealing with this non-issue have been better spent, oh, I don't know, educating the public about bicycle safety?
I agree that it is ultimately the voting public who are responsible for police and government misconduct. Your vote is your consent for you and everybody else (even non-voters) to be governed. When are people going to get it through their fluoride-soaked little brains that we are much better off owning ourselves, and that the vast majority of "evil" isn't carried out by 14 year old boys without helmets, or even serial killers, but by governments and their pawns, i.e. police and military?
We can take care of ourselves beautifully, we have just been programmed through fear to believe we need them.
Many commenters here and elsewhere have said things to the effect of "Where do people get the idea they are above the law?". In truth, WE ARE ALL ABOVE "THE LAW". The only thing anybody is "under", is a superstitious and outdated belief that rules written on a piece of paper and hired thugs enforcing these rules somehow keeps us safer. Bullshit!
Hats off to the lady who behaved with empathy and concern, and not like a little obedient robot slave who worships police and thinks they can do no wrong.
You my friend are the ignorant one. Were you there? No probably not right. So you mister smarty are judging this cops actions by a 3 minute video. Just like all the real sheep. You do not know what really happened. You have no right to judge this cops actions. You think you are so smart on the subject. What do you think he should have done. Since you obviously do not know what actually happened I guess it would be pretty ignorant of you to make a guess. Wouldn't it? So here I will make it easy for you and spell it out in simple forms. Cop doing his job sees a kid breaking the law. Pulls up to the kid and asks what his name is mentions his missing helmet and riding on the sidewalk. Cop is thinking I will just give this kid a warning like all cops do but then the kid refuses to give his name which makes the cop think he is hiding something. Wanted maybe. A runaway. Then the kid starts swearing at him, spits on him then runs away....ok now what would you do as a trained police officer? Since you seem like you know everything.
DeleteSeems that a lot of Canadians are extremely ignorant of our laws. Riding a bicycle on the sidewalk is a violation of the British Columbia Motor Vehicle act, RCMP officer had every legal right to stop and identify him in order to issue a violation ticket. The young man (clearly not a kid or child) brought all the rest that happened upon himself by chosing to refuse to identify himself and resisting arrest. That's the big problem these days with social media, crybabies get noticed when they whine so publicly. As far as the hairdresser goes, if she had just stuck to running her mouth, then fine. She got charged with obstructing police because she physically interfered with the arrest. The video clearly shows her holding the young man throughout the whole arrest, in an attempt to prevent the officer from restraining him. Cop should have slammed her to the ground and cuffed her too... the bitch.
ReplyDeleteWhose law? The RCMP laws, the Government Laws, or the Queens Law
Delete"Cop should have slammed her to the ground and cuffed her too... the bitch." t|This is the perspective that confirms how brainwashed we are, into accepting that 'law' has no moral authority. All to often we see excessive force in response to minor infractions. As a society we are taught to accept this as normal police behavior. Whether someone breaks the law or not, they are entitled to respectful conduct on the part of law enforcement. Like in Europe, police undertake extensive DE escalation techniques, while here it seems they have mastered the art of EScalation.
DeleteThis cop is well known in the community for not being reasonable, intimidating the homeless, and targeting youth for ticketing. It was only a matter of time before this happened. Soonercor late someone always stands up to a bully. It won't be the last time and I worry next time the consequences might be more than a little skirmish in the street.
ReplyDeleteThis cop works alone and is often down back allies by himself. When you work like that your badge only gets you so far. The rest is your relationships and your reputation. This officer is failing on both accounts. Sure some of the business owner like him and Johny Citizen will tell you we all need to be more respectful of the police, but that is not the reality with those that make this man's job either safer or more dangerous. Only he can do that, and this was not conducive to that end.
Well known by who exactly? People that break the law?
DeletePolice officers these days use physical force against people using there words, or as they call it "verbal assault". Yes teens and adults should have more respect for the officers. But that's hard to do when the RCMP are allowed to break the laws and the rest of us have to follow them.
ReplyDeleteI have been witness to some excess force being used. I watched them pull up to a home, the man went peacefully was slammed against the car, arm wrenched up his back and slammed down again with the cop saying "stop resisting". The man had not moved answered all there questions."what's your name? Date of birth? Where do you live? Do you have any drugs? Have you been drinking? Do you have any idea?" His wife asked why the had to be so rough. The 2nd cop then turned to her and ask her to go get her husbands wallet, she said no you can have him and wgat he has on him, you cant have anything in my house. The officer then said "get in the house or you will be arrested to obstruction of justice", the woman went inside. Watching thru the window. The cops rifled the man off the hood and walked him to the backseat where the slammed his head against the car. 1 officer walked or to the house telling the wife to come out and bring her man's wallet with her. She then said "no I will not, be arrested for obstruction of justice" and walked away from the window.
Disrespectful wastes of resources that want no accountability, but demand everything on a silver platter....that's what all you "people" are who don't think the kid did anything wrong.
ReplyDeleteIf we want to throw the laws out the window, that'd be fine by me. Then I could wipe you off this planet and not be thrown in jail....good deal.
I am a Security Officer I have been for 9 yrs. I deal with a lot of adults and kids alike who have no respect at all for anything or anyond. I have worked undercover and yes there are times I have had to take a subject to the ground due to him or her resisting arrest after I have identified myself. Now there are 2 types of force excessive force or extreme force now watching that 3 min video there was no extreme force used the Officer used what force he had to use to subdue the subject. Now my biggest pet peeve is how I chase someone for blocks of outside the building in working and people WHO did not see what went down inside or out depending on where it happen the first thing they do is bring out their phones and start taping and saying I used too much force.. I honestly think those type of people should be fined for taping and for interrupting the arrest.. I myself when I'm in uniform I try and use verbal judo it is a tactic we all in the law enforcement are trained to do if that doesn't resolve anything the next is detaining the subject if said subject pulls away it as classified as resisting arrest and they are now in violation and can be charged and can also be charged with assaulting an Officer.so we use the force that we are able to use to arrest subject and put cuffs on them for our protection as well as publics safety... We don't over step our bounds and bounce someone's head off the ground after they are detained.. but again people have horse blinders on and only see what they want to see and not the big picture...
ReplyDeleteYou are not in "law enforcement" you're a mall cop. Verbal Judo? Good lord...
DeletePinning a 14 year old to the ground for not giving his name or wearing a bicycle helmet in a small town (pop. 3400), whose citizens are used to living a relaxed lifestyle, seems excessive. There was no threat to public safety.
ReplyDeletePolice enforce the law using their discretion.
By relaxed lifestyle you must mean that normally there is no cops in town and everyone breaks the law openly...you are right and that is why it is not ok to let 14 year old get away with anything in a town where all the parents are openly sharing drugs with their children and allowing them to do what they please...someone needs to step up and change that now before it is to late and these kids are adults. I know exactly what that town is like and I knew both kid and woman involved and neither of them are model citizens no matter how hard they try to pretend. Pinning to the ground would seem excessive if it was just as simple as you seem to think it is. These kids are not the go to cub scouts kind of kids they are smoke weed and drink kind of kids. This kid was not just thrown to the ground he was refusing to give his name and openly disrespecting a police officer in front of multiple people. That is not ok. He is a cop and it his duty to enforce respect because without it he is just another man with a gun.
DeleteKeep up the good work , I read few posts on this web site and I conceive that your blog is very interesting and has sets of fantastic information. https://www.mosscolella.com/
